HIstory of Poems...

Poetry (from the Greek "ποίησις", poiesis, a "making") is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns or lyrics.
Poetry, and discussions of it, have a long history. Early attempts to define poetry, such as Aristotle's Poetics, focused on the uses of speech in rhetoric, drama, song and comedy.Later attempts concentrated on features such as repetition, verse form and rhyme, and emphasized the aesthetics which distinguish poetry from prose. From the mid-20th century, poetry has sometimes been more loosely defined as a fundamental creative act using language.
Poetry often uses particular forms and conventions to suggest alternative meanings in the words, or to evoke emotional or sensual responses. Devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. The use of ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction often leaves a poem open to multiple interpretations. Similarly, metaphor, simile and metonymy[4] create a resonance between otherwise disparate images—a layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.
Some forms of poetry are specific to particular cultures and genres, responding to the characteristics of the language in which the poet writes. While readers accustomed to identifying poetry with Dante, Goethe, Mickiewicz and Rumi may think of it as being written in rhyming lines and regular meter, there are traditions, such as those of Du Fu and Beowulf, that use other approaches to achieve rhythm and euphony. Much of modern British and American poetry is to some extent a critique of poetic tradition, playing with and testing (among other things) the principle of euphony itself, to the extent that sometimes it deliberately does not rhyme or keep to set rhythms at all.In today's globalized world, poets often borrow styles, techniques and forms from diverse cultures and languages.

Love Is a Gift I Give to You
by Belinda Quinton
The night sky twinkles above

The stars mirror the light in your eyes
They fill with the look of love
And with the bond that ties
The eyes are the window to the soul
Open to expose the heart's real need
What is the payment of the toll?
A spark that is planted like a seed
This spark is a fire burning within
A desire to expand the glow
To some, it's simply a sin
To others, the heart will know
The eyes show the love you feel
The heart is open wide
My soul has to close the deal
Then you walk with me by my side
Love is a gift I give to you
My heart for you to hold
If you feel the love I feel too
Our hearts will warm and block out the cold

My Heart Soars On Your Love

I talk
I sing
I laugh
I smile
I hear your call
I know the sound
My heart jumps
When you're around
Each day I yearn for you more and more
Each night my dreams you fill
One day I know the time will come
When we share our lives on top of that hill
Until that day comes to be
Take my heart and guard it with yours
Keep it safe and away from harm
And on the strength of your love it soars!

Seasons of Love

Thank you for a season of love Of joy and happiness from above Of peace and laughter in my soul And brought to me by your tenderness
Thank you for a season of peace Of calmness, quietness and ease That takes away my tears and fears All brought to me by your gentleness
Thank you for a season of strength A foundation that can’t be rent An inner power that I can send O, brought to me by your yieldedness
Thank you for a season of hope Of faith, that matches all my dreams And confidence where once I groped Brought to me by your bounteousness
Thank you for a season of smiles The rainbow you’ve placed in my skies Of songs and laughter, joyous cries All brought to me by your genuineness
Thank you for a season of light That makes my dreams so clear, so bright Makes me bold to stand and fight It’s brought to me by your faithfulness
... All brought to me by your loveliness

I Love

I love your smile and amber eyes
That brought me first to you
I love that you're a gentleman
Dependable and true
I love the jokes and anecdotes
You can't tell sitting down
I love the way you comfort me
And kiss away my frowns
I love your dreams and crazy schemes
Your courage to reach the stars
I love the way you love the Lord
And give him all your heart
I love the way you look at life
You make the whole world new
I love the father that you are
And our children love you too
I love the times we spend alone
The passion you have for me
I love the way you work so hard
And strive for purity
I love to discover who you are
My treasure from the Lord
I love what God is making you
And I can only love you more.

Intended

When the lamplight of the Sun
First touched the dark
And rolling, sighing, seeking wave
First kissed the land
When the first drop of rain
Met the very first leaf
That moment God chose you
And intended you for me

When that tiny living globe
Formed in the dark
And with the rhythm of time and space
First beat your heart
When God knit your limbs
And gave breath to your lungs
Your days he ordained
And intended you for me

All praise to our God
Who created all things
Who gave us life and gave us life again
Who came here this day
To create us anew
To take two hearts and meld them into one

From the moment that my eyes
First saw your face
And when you with an angel's voice
First spoke my name
When you first took my hand
Heaven's voice seemed to say
That before earth's foundation
He intended you for me

You and I

I went through life, meandering,wondering...Where life's road is taking me.One day up, the other, down,searching...Knowing not my destiny.

All these years you were there;committed...As was I. Firm boundaries in place. Then one day, these fences fell,clattering...Leaving us both free to choose.

Now we have choices, yes we do -unlimited...A freedom until now not known. No demands, no expectations;hesitating...Could we meet our separate needs?

You are most wonderful by far, moreexceptional...Than anyone I've ever met.You give, you love, you share -unique...Could this be it for both of us?

You are kind, loving and warm;unselfish...You give so much day by day.And I receive that warmth from you,unending...Will you tell me what you really feel?

The days are early - we have time;contemplating...About what's important to us both.If we were meant for one another,forever...Will all be revealed in time to come?

Regardless of the signs right now,promising...We will soon know if it's for real.We both need time to heal and grow;recovering...Before embracing that new tomorrow!

But while we share this journey dear,together...Let's enjoy what's ours to share.Let's be gentle with each other,loving...And enjoy what fate has sent our way!

I love you angel, that you know;Sabrina...You are such a perfect mate!I would take you as my own,tomorrow...If I knew you felt the same.

Friendship, love, respect and trust,cemented...Solidly in place for both of us.A foundation under construction;solid...For you, for me, our little ones.

You and I,Please Lord!Just let it be.

My Heart Cries

My heart cries, but you don’t hear it.
My heart breaks, but you don’t feel it.
My body longs to feel your arms around me.
My lips long to feel your kisses.
My ears long to hear you say I love you.
My eyes long to see your smile and eyes twinkle.
My life longs to have you in it.
My world longs to have you make it complete.
My body longs to feel you lie next to it.
My love longs to have you return it.
My heart will cry, my heart will break.
My body will go limp, my lips will only speak.
My ears will miss your words, my eyes will shed tears.
My life will be so lonely, my world will be so empty.
My love will go unreturned.
My heart aches as my life is turned inside out.
My mind will never forget, my heart will never let go.
I have loved you since the day I met you
But now my heart cries, and you don’t hear it.

Thinking of You

When I think of you, I think of laughter.
I think of sharing popcorn and cracking up at a silly movie.
I think of imagining a silly sight and laughing with you until tears form.
I think of a shared thought that only we know and giggling like school kids, upon remembrance.
When I think of you, I think of security.
I think of feeling safe in your arms as you hold me.
I think of how you lovingly provide for our family.
I think of being with you forever and never feeling alone.
When I think of you, I think of love.
I think of two hearts filled with joy, never to be broken.
I think of two bodies intertwined as only love can bring them together.
I think of what your touch or just looking at me a certain way, does to me.
I think of us growing old together and sharing an everlasting, unconditional love.

I think of you at only two times……day and night.
I think of you as my lover, my friend, my bodyguard, my confidant, my rock, my king.
I look forward to spending the rest of my days loving you.
